he Penn State School of Music has announced a new recital series titled “American Mavericks, Malcontents, and Mischief-Makers.” This series celebrates the bold and rebellious spirit of music, highlighting groundbreaking composers and performers who dared to defy conventions. Audience members will be immersed in a diverse array of innovative and provocative works, performed by the exceptional talent of the School of Music’s faculty and students. Each recital in the series will incorporate curated remarks delivered by the school’s esteemed musicology and theory faculty, providing deeper insight into the inspiring music. The series will kick off with a free preview recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the Recital Hall, with refreshments following the concert in the Eleanor Duncan Armstrong Atrium. General Admission tickets are $30 each and include a pre-concert conversation at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and light refreshments. Free admission (concert only) will be offered to students with a valid student ID at the door starting at 6:30 p.m prior to each concert. Additional recitals in the series will be held on the following dates: Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 7:30 p.m. Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the bold and rebellious spirit of American music.
